Family Support
Sometimes the stresses of everyday life can be overwhelming for all of us and you may feel you just need to talk these through with someone. Our Family Support Officer is here to provide support to both children and their families.
We work closely with teachers and other members of the school staff to identify any issues or concerns that may be impacting your child’s education or wellbeing. By working collaboratively, we can ensure that your child receives the support they need to thrive both academically and socially.
Part of this role is to also to monitor children’s attendance and look at how we can work with families to improve it.
Some of the many things the Family Support Officer can do are as follows:
TBC, Family Support Officer and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
The Family Support Officer will also liaise with Safeguarding Team and Social Workers from the Children With disabilities Team or Social Care who provide long term respite and support for families with an allocated social worker.

Attendance
For our pupils to gain the greatest benefit from their education it is vital that they attend regularly and your child should be at school, on time, every day the school is open unless the reason for the absence is unavoidable. It is very important therefore that you make sure that your child attends regularly and our Policy sets out how together we will achieve this.
What should I do if my child can't come into school?
Whenever a student is off school due to sickness, please phone the office or email us on the morning of the day they are absent to let us know. For other absences e.g. appointments, please give us advance notice where possible.
When your holidays do not coincide with the school term dates, it is necessary for you to complete a Holiday Request form beforehand, to get permission from the Principal or Head of School.
If you do not supply us with this information, we have a duty of care to contact you to establish a child’s whereabouts (this is an important safeguarding measure).
Lateness
Please ensure your child arrives at school so that they are present for registration; this is completed between 8:10-9.15am each day. Lateness can be detrimental to their learning when key learning inputs are missed. Worryingly, ‘it all adds up’ over time; for instance, missing just 15 minutes each day is the equivalent to missing 10 days learning over a school year.
How can I report an absence?
Reception on 01296 427221 (voicemail can be left before school opens)
Arbor App using the in-app messaging system
Office email office@bookerpark.bucks.sch.uk
Did you know?
- If a child has 90% attendance, it means they are absent from lessons for the equivalent of half a day every week
- If their attendance stays at 90% during the academic year, they will miss a total of 4 weeks of school, which equates to nearly half a term
- If their attendance stays at 90% from Year 1 to Year 6, they will have missed 27 weeks which is over half a school year
- A child who is 10 minutes late every day will miss 30 hours of lessons during a year
- Half of pupils who miss between 2-4 days in September will go on to miss nearly a month of school that year
